Mills Heating & Air hosted a Miles For Mills Fun Run on Saturday, April 13, to raise money towards Choctawhatchee High School’s (CHS) athletic programs.
Every lap run netted the school $5 and was matched by Mills Heating & Air. There were 65 participants—CHS students from varying athletic teams as well as community volunteers. Even Mills Heating & Air owners Chris and Marty White ran around the track. The oldest runner in the event was 73 with the youngest 5 years old. The latter successfully ran 3. 5 miles.
All told, 809 laps were run meaning 202 and-a-quarter miles were successfully achieved. With the matching funding by Mills Heat & Air, $4,045 were raised to help support CHS’ various sports teams and the Athletic Department.
Known as the Big Green Indian Nation, CHS was opened in 1952. The school professes a strong belief in “challenging their students goal is to empower students with the academic, technological, and decision-making skills to become self-reliant, productive citizens in a global society.”
Along with an emphasis on education, their athletic programs help prepare their students to succeed in an increasingly complex world. Such programs are important as they provide valuable lessons and skills for practical situations such as teamwork, fair play, and hard work according to the National Federation of State High School Associations.
Mills Heating & Air is celebrating their 40th business anniversary. While already active in supporting community service, the company planned 40 good deeds to perform for the community this year. The Miles for Mills Fun Run is another of their such projects—and there are more to come.
Mills Heating & Air is located at 225 Green Acres Road in Fort Walton Beach (850) 862-4796) and 17747 Ashley Dr., Unit B in Panama City Beach (850) 234-8177.
