Harvey F. Eckhoff VFW Post 7674 hosted the 13th Annual Texas Hold ‘em Charity Tournament in Fort Walton Beach on April 27. The event successfully raised more than $5,000 benefiting Relay for Life of the Emerald Coast.

Partnering with Relay for Life, the VFW provided the venue to create a temporary casino. VFW volunteers also made and donated all the food for attendees along with assisting in registering excited players. An additional $310 was raised towards the charity via those purchasing meal tickets.

Numerous local sponsors generously donated prizes for winning participants as well as auction items. All proceeds for the event along with auction items and other gifts benefited Relay for Life.

Jean Grieve from Relay for Life organized and chaired the event with her team. She expressed their gratitude to VFW Post 7674 and its Auxiliary for sponsoring the event as well as the numerous donors and attendees who made the 13th Annual Charity Poker Tournament Challenge a success. The organization is committed to providing high-quality programs towards research, education, advocacy, and programs towards reducing cancer incidents and deaths. They also work towards improving the quality of life of those affected by cancer.

Dr. Gordon “Gordy” Klatt w Relay founded Relay for Life in 1985 as a fund-raising component of the American Cancer Society. Since then, they have raised over $6.8 billion to help save lives from cancer. Their slogan perfectly emulates their mission: Celebrate. Remember. Fight Back.

More information about the event as well as a list of all the donors may be found at Emerald Coast Connected.
