An Open Discussion About Available Job Vacancies with City of Ft Walton Beach Schuyler Black & Bobby Dewrell
The City of Fort Walton Beach announced June 27 that the right turn lane of Perry Avenue on the south side of U.S. Highway 98 will be closed from 6 p.m. Friday through 6 p.m. Sunday effective June 28 through Labor Day weekend. During this period, motorists will not be able to turn eastbound onto U.S. Highway 98 from this intersection.
The turn lane closure is meant to reduce impact and vehicle congestion on residential streets from motorists trying to “cut through” neighborhoods north of Brooks Bridge to access U.S. Highway 98 via Brooks Street and Perry Avenue. The congestion has severely impacted residents in that area.
Message boards will be placed on Eglin Parkway (SR 85), Hollywood Boulevard, and at the Perry Avenue intersection alerting motorists of this closure. However, navigation apps like Google Maps and Waze may not accurately reflect this closure which has been a part of the congestion problem as tourists try to find shortcuts to the bridge.
Motorists trying to access U.S. Highway 98 are encouraged to do so at the Eglin Parkway (SR 85) intersection.
