From Crestview to the NFL: A Conversation with Juanyeh Thomas Juanyeh Thomas

Welcome back to the 55th Annual All Sports Association Banquet and Awards Evening at the Destin Fort Walton Beach Convention Center. I’m Skyler Black, and I had the pleasure of sitting down with Juanyeh Thomas, the winner of the Professional Award. Juanyeh is a Dallas Cowboy and a native of Crestview, who attended Niceville High School before playing college football at Georgia Tech in the ACC. In this interview, Juanyeh shares his journey from high school to the NFL and the challenges he faced along the way.

Transitioning from High School to the NFL

Juanyeh reflects on the transition from high school to college, where he had to switch from being a cornerback to a safety due to his size. He found the transition tough, but ultimately rewarding. However, the toughest battle was transitioning from college to the NFL, where he had to adjust to the smaller roster size and the competitive nature of the league.

Overcoming Challenges as an Undrafted Free Agent

As an undrafted free agent, Juanyeh faced numerous challenges in making it to the NFL. He spent his first year on the practice squad, which was a humbling experience. Despite facing setbacks, including a torn MCL, Juanyeh persevered and worked hard to earn a spot on the Cowboys’ roster in his second year. His determination and resilience paid off when he received the news that he had made the final roster, a moment he describes as a mix of relief and tears of joy.

The Offseason Grind

While the NFL playoffs may have ended, Juanyeh’s work as a professional athlete never stops. He discusses his offseason training regimen, highlighting the dedication and commitment required to excel in the league. For Juanyeh, the offseason is a time to focus on training and preparation for the upcoming season, with mandatory workouts and OTAs on the horizon.

Returning Home as an Award Winner

Receiving the professional award from the All Sports Association in his hometown holds special significance for Juanyeh. He is grateful for the opportunity to inspire others from the area and show that it is possible to achieve success in the NFL, even coming from a small town. Juanyeh’s journey from Crestview to the NFL serves as a testament to the power of determination and hard work.

In conclusion, Juanyeh Thomas’s story is one of perseverance, resilience, and dedication. From overcoming challenges as an undrafted free agent to excelling in the NFL, Juanyeh’s journey is an inspiration to aspiring athletes everywhere. As he continues to represent his hometown and the All Sports Association, Juanyeh’s success serves as a reminder that with hard work and determination, anything is possible.
